Born a self hatin’ little girl with a soul so pure
Beautiful and smart– so young, yet mature
Talented with words, but the world doesn’t see
That this is the only way that I know how to be me
Broken and beaten by this world that I despise
I’ve learned to block it all out, I no longer open my eyes
They’ve been permanently shut, so now I live through what I feel
But I’ve cut off all emotions so life’s no big deal
I’ll be great one day, that’s what I tell myself
I’ll be great one day and then they’ll see
I’ll be great one day– And good enough for me

though times were hard,
Indeed, the way’s still rough-

His joy still shines upon your face
Though inside you are crying;
Your gentle Savior sees your trust
…And those tears you’re hiding.
Ask those questions, state your case;
He’s opened wide the door…
Go boldly to the throne of grace,
We’re told to in His word-
Then hear Him whisper in your heart
The sweetest words you’ve heard…
“I’ll carry you, dear child of Mine,
You’ve trusted Me and waited-
Clasp tight My robe, I’ll see you through
…For you have kept the faith.”
